Jeremy Kirsch was raised in a house with cameras and a darkroom. His first photographic epiphany was artificially induced and came while thumbing through his mother’s Diane Arbus books with a few friends during an all night party.

Possessing a strange knack for meeting people in unusual circumstances, the subjects in his work are usually his friends or recent acquaintances. Having worked for a living as a professional fabricator and an amateur set painter, much of Jeremy’s photographic work involves the use of sets and props that he has either constructed himself or commissioned others to make for him. He works with an old Graflex camera and whatever inexpensive Russian medium format camera he can afford. In his studio, he employs the use of hot lights almost exclusively.

Residing in Oakland, California, Jeremy has exhibited his work in the San Francisco Bay Area and in the Pacific Northwest. His first book, Freekmagnet, was published in 2005.
